Delivery in communities: Some 2 000 title deeds delivered in two months as campaign takes flight

The City’s Human Settlements title deeds campaign has reached a significant milestone by transforming the lives of more than 2 000 title deed beneficiaries between June and July 2024. The Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Carl Pophaim, architect of the campaign, celebrated with title deed beneficiaries across the city over recent months.
'The City's title deeds campaign has exceeded our expectations thanks to the hard work of our dedicated teams on the ground and our title deed agents. We have been tracking and tracing qualifying residents and we have been visiting identified areas to deliver on the doorsteps of qualifying beneficiaries. Over two months in June and July, we delivered an amazing 2 000 title deeds through our deed-to-door campaign. We are proud of our hardworking and dedicated staff and the achievements made by our title deed agents. Together, we are changing the lives of residents, one title deed at a time.
'Our door-to-door approach has been a huge factor in our success and we thank residents for their support and for helping us spread the word about our campaign. Often, qualifying residents' details from old housing projects have not been updated, so we have been unable to find them, or they have moved out of the metro and changed their contact numbers. However, our teams were up to the challenge and managed to successfully reach many residents. We have about 12 000 title deeds to go. We can do this and build Cape Town together!
'Title deeds prove ownership and are important documents for financial transactions, including wills and banking loans, among others. Our campaign success is testament to our dedication towards empowering residents in our communities. The issuance of title deeds to beneficiaries represents our commitment to providing security of tenure and unlocking opportunities for residents.
'We are just getting started and our teams are ready to deliver and assist many more residents in the weeks and months to come. This is land reform and redress in action,' said Councillor Pophaim.
What you need to know
If you or a family member is a beneficiary of a City unit without a title deed, here's what you need to do:
- Identify our easily recognisable title deed agents visiting your area.
- Have the following documents ready:
- Owner ID and spouse ID (if applicable).
- Marriage certificate (if applicable).
- In the event of a death, provide a Letter of Authority, Death Certificate, or Will.
If you missed the team, bring along the required documents and visit us at the Cape Town Civic Centre, 2nd Floor Human Settlements Kiosk Monday to Friday between 09:00 – 12:00.

The title deed email request must include the following information:
Subject: Erf number and Area
Body of the email:
• Name and Surname: (The name in which the title deed is registered)
• ID number
• Address
